Answers:
Q: Can this flooring system
be applied over my old (existing) flooring?
A: Yes, in most cases. This flooring system can be retrofitted
over existing flooring. Old, cracked, loose existing flooring will be
removed and all cracks, seams, grout lines and holes will be filled
with underlayment-filler before the new epoxy flooring system
is applied. Common existing flooring systems include kitchen
flooring, garage flooring, concrete flooring, commercial,
industrial, etc.
Q: Will I have to hire someone,
or another company, to relocate, remove, and re-install my existing
equipment for this new flooring to be applied in my functional
facility?
A: No. Facility Flooring Solutions has
experienced superintendents, technicians, and craftsmen on staff that
can relocate and reinstall existing equipment/items during the
flooring installation process. This turn key operation results
in short downtime and a low cost to you!
Q:
What is Vertical Cove Base?
A: The new system typically includes, in
addition to the new flooring, a 6" high vertical cove base around the
perimeter of the area that is receiving the new floor. This
vertical cove is installed along the walls to create a seamless
protection barrier for existing walls and to satisfy health
department and industrial requirements. This vertical cove material can also be
applied at different heights, such as mop sinks, walls, walk-ins,
etc. This creates a maintenance free, moisture-proof area.
Q:
What is Polymerization
A: Polymerization is caused by the residue
of grease, dirt, and cleaning compounds that have not been completely
removed. The various molecules combine, harden, and become
electrically attached to a floor surface. The grime literally becomes
part of the floor. This polymerization creates very slippery
conditions. Kitchen flooring and garage flooring is especially
exposed to these conditions due to high grease content. Poured flooring is easy to clean, is non
absorbent, and can be exposed to severe daily cleaning techniques.
The slip resistance properties this system exceeds industrial and
commercial standards, and
ADA slip resistance requirements whether dry or wet (
ASTM
D-2047).
Q:
Why is seamless so important? I have used and seen quarry tile and
vinyl floors used in kitchens for a long time.
A: The technology of the new generation of
floorings, like the poured flooring seamless system, has exceeded the
old technology of tile and vinyl floors. These old methods are not caught
up with the times. Our flooring system has no grout lines to crack or
harbor dirt or bacteria. This results in a cleaner, safer production
environment. Other flooring systems have broken, cracked, or missing
tiles that need to be replaced. The new flooring system is
virtually maintenance-free and anti-microbial. We have successfully
installed our poured floor systems in some of the heaviest, oil
laden kitchen environments and also for major leaders in industrial
and commercial companies.
Q:
Can I use this epoxy/marble in walk-in coolers and freezers?
A: Yes. Our poured flooring system
is unaffected by freeze/thaw cycles. Unlike other flooring systems,
this won't delaminate due to thermally induced
stresses.
Q:
I have used epoxy-based products in the past and the odor was
terrible. Can these epoxy chemicals hurt you?
A: The
Epoxy, Urethane, MMA materials are non-toxic, environmentally safe,
industrial safe, commercially safe,
have no objectionable odor, and no volatile compounds. They are
USDA Approved, meet OSHA and FDA requirements, and are VERY SAFE!
Q: Can't I just purchase this
material -- new flooring system and apply it myself?
A:
You can if you wish. But we utilize and
certify every installation technician team. Warranty will not
apply on the new flooring system if it is installed by a
non-certified technician.
Q: What is the warranty on this
product?
A:
Limited warranty on retrofits (over existing flooring) is three (3)
years. New construction, five (5) years. Warranty includes
labor and materials.
Q:
What about the cost? I have heard that this type of system is very
expensive.
A: Over
the last several years technology has stabilized the cost of
materials and the methods used for installation. In most cases,
the Epoxy, Urethane or MMA floor systems are comparable to quarry tile.
One of our systems can be installed over metal concrete, tile, or
terrazzo. Some factors that affect cost:
Geographics - Where it is to be installed (kitchen flooring,
garage flooring, bathroom flooring, commercial or industrial setting, etc.)
Size - square footage of
area
Volume - How many locations
Extra Labor - Is equipment removal required at existing sites
Q:
Where can marble epoxy flooring be installed?
A:
Almost ANYWHERE! Kitchen flooring is one of the most
prominent places that this system is found. Other very prevalent
uses of the seamless flooring systems are for garage flooring,
shop floors, food processing plants, locker rooms, kitchen
flooring, walk-ways, sideways, hallways, stairways, refineries,
pool decks, shopping centers, commercial buildings, industrial
factories, and more. In fact, Yum! Corporation and Burger
King feature kitchen flooring applied in this unique method.
